An Emmy Award, or an Emmy, is an American award that recognizes excellence in the television industry.

It is presented at several annual events held throughout the calendar year, each of which honours one of the different sectors of the television industry.

The two celebrations that received the most media coverage are the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Daytime Emmy Awards, which honour outstanding work on American primetime and daytime entertainment programming, respectively.

Other notable Emmy events include those in which national sports programs, national news, documentaries, and technological and engineering achievements in television are honoured, including the Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards.

Regional Emmy Awards are also presented across the country at various times during the year, in recognition of excellence in local and state television.

In addition, the International Emmy Awards recognize excellence in television programs initially produced and broadcast outside the United States.

After winning two Daytime Emmys last week, Apple TV + picked up its first major Emmy Award, "Primetime" last night. Billy Crudup won for his role as a lead supporting actor on the ATV+'s drama series The Morning Show for his role as Network CEO Cory Ellison. Crudup previously won a Critic's Choice Award for the same role.

This year, the Emmys have split into multiple shows, with the Emmys for Creative Arts being held last week and the Primetime Awards on Monday. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the show was almost held with Jimmy Kimmel hosting live while nominees and presenters appeared on Zoom.

Apple's live streaming competitor Netflix didn't do well. Despite receiving 160 nominations in total, Netflix won only two Emmys in the main "Primetime" section and 19 in the Creative Arts and other categories. For the major awards, Maria Schrader Chosen Best Director for Unorthodox and Ozark's Julia Garner won the Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama. It was a third-place out of HBO, which had 11 wins for Watchmen and Succession, while Pop TV took seven Emmys for Schitt’s Creek.

Disney+ failed to win any Primetime Emmys, but last week won eight in the Creative Arts category, including five for The Mandalorian. The show was nominated for seven other awards in other categories but failed to win the main Primetime Emmy award (it won seven in total). After completing major broadcast networks, malicious short streaming service Quibi managed to win two Emmys last week in a police drama
