The stress on the electrical grid may cause power outages for PG&E customers between 4 PM. And 9 pm Sunday.

Contra Costa County, California - Officials have warned that PG&E customers in Contra Costa County must prepare for a blackout on Sunday evening due to pressure on the electrical grid.

With temperatures in the area topping 110 degrees on Sunday, the California independent system operator warned of a potential power shortage. Should they occur, PG&E power outages will occur from 4 PM. Until 9 pm Sunday.

PG&E has warned that these interruptions should last between one to two hours for most customers.

El Cerrito officials warned residents that "this plan could change dramatically if directed by the CAISO in order to meet the needs of the system." "The situation is still dynamic."

The California independent system operator blamed a potential power shortage for a full-blown storm of heatwaves spiking demand as wildfires cut off supplies. The fires have disrupted a solar generator and farm, further affecting the state's electricity grid.

"With today's sweltering heat, increasing demand for electricity and forest fires wiping out transmission lines, the system's power supply could reach 4,000 megawatts this evening," California ISO said Sunday afternoon on Twitter.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said the country was taking "drastic" steps to liberalize electric power and reduce demand.

"Wildfires have caused system failures, while energy demand is expected to close to a record level as a multi-state heatwave hits the West Coast for the second time in a matter of weeks."

Customers are required to divert the bulk of their energy use to late hours of the night or early daylight hours.

Steps customers can take include setting the air conditioner thermostat at 78 degrees if health permits; Defer use of major appliances; Turn off unnecessary lights; Separating devices, not in use; Close blinds and curtains. Use fans if possible; And reduce the time the refrigerator door is open.
