Usain Bolt has tested positive for the Coronavirus, as Jamaica's Prime Minister said there'll be no special treatment if anyone is found violating the principles emanating from a celebration held to mark the previous runner's 34th birthday.#sports #sport #fitness 


Ricky Sims, Bolt's agent, confirmed the Olympic great's positive test to the media.

"He tested positive for COVID, but Usain didn't show any symptoms," he wrote to the media in an email.


"It is now known that Bolt tested positive," said Dr Christopher Tofton, Jamaica's Minister of Health and Wellness, at a virtual news conference on Monday.


"He has been formally notified - as I even have been informed - by the authorities and in line with standard protocols once there's a positive case, no matter the individual, this results in an approach to interrogation, and interrogation if you'll, which can then end in continued with contact tracing."


Multiple media reports in Jamaica reported that two prominent footballers, Manchester City's Raheem Sterling and Bayer Leverkusen's Leon Bailey, attended Friday's party.

"How can Leon not come and support his friend?" Jamaica Glenner quoted Craig Butler, who it said was Billy's manager and adoptive father, as saying.


Manchester City didn't comment during a call when asked about Sterling's apparent presence at the party, while Leverkusen said in an email that he couldn't comment until he knew more details.


Colossal Sports Management, of Sterling and Bailey, didn't answer an email requesting comment.

I will isolate myself


Bolt, the planet record holder within the 100 meters and 200 meters and eight-time Olympic gold medalist, posted a video on social media earlier on Monday before the test results.


He said he took the test on Saturday and was meaning to quarantine. And he urged those around him to isolate him, too.


"I took a test on Saturday because I even have employment," Bolt said. "I attempt to be responsible so I will be able to occupy home and stick with my friends. I even have no symptoms.


"I will put myself in quarantine and wait to ascertain what the protocol is ... Until then ... I'm in self-quarantine and easily take it up. Be safe there."


On Friday, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness explained the importance of wearing masks publicly, avoiding gatherings of quite 20 people, and maintaining social distancing.


Little of that appears to possess been followed up as seen during a recent Instagram video, posted on Friday, that appears to point out Bolt's birthday celebration.


Bolt is often seen dancing and mingling with the guests. Glenner newspaper reported that the ceremony was attended by "a group of local and international celebrities".

There are a variety of photos and videos circulating of unmasked parties, social distancing etc.


"There also are reports of activity associated with Usain Bolt," he added.


"The police are investigating all aspects of the matter, so nobody is going to be treated with any exception or special treatment. All Jamaicans have a requirement and in fact, those that have public air and influence within the public sphere may be a greater duty."


The Jamaica police didn't answer the media's request for comment.


Jamaica has quite 1,600 cases and a minimum of 16 deaths, consistent with Johns Hopkins University. the amount of daily confirmed cases rose to 116 on August 25, its highest daily total, consistent with the planet Health Organization.


Sterling was included within the England squad on Tuesday for the upcoming matches against Iceland and Denmark within the Nations League.
